The Port System Authority is a non-economic public body of national importance with a special regulation. The Port System Authorities were established in 2016, by the legislative decree of 24 August n.169, to strengthen the organization and activities of civil seaports of economic, national or international importance, amending law n. 84 of 1994 which introduced the reorganization of ports in Italy and established the Port Authorities. The Port System Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea has responsibilities that extend to the ports of La Spezia and Marina di Carrara, both overlooking the Ligurian Sea but falling into two different regions, Liguria and Tuscany respectively. The headquarters of AdSP MLOr is in La Spezia, with a territorial port office in Marina di Carrara. The two ports, which provide employment to thousands of people, are strategic commercial hubs of a large territory and headquarters of important tourist, cruise and yachting, industrial activities, with international shipbuilding establishments, and of the maritime economy, mussel farming and fishing.

Dario Perioli S.p.A was founded in 1908 as a coal transport company and is the oldest and among the most important maritime service companies in the Port of La Spezia. Over time, Dario Perioli has become an international company with a particular penchant for trades to and from North Africa; this is thanks in part to its collaboration with its subsidiary Cnan Med Spa, a regular line to Algeria, and its subsidiary Sahel Line, a shipping company dedicated to freight traffic to Tunisia. Together, these two entities are able to offer a full range of logistics and cargo management services. In 2018, the Dario Perioli Group opened a multipurpose terminal in the port of Marina di Carrara, MDC Terminal, with the aim of expanding its range of services and increasing the value of the supply chain. The Group is a 3PL that covers all phases of the proposed services and is able to offer customized solutions to each client, thanks to the experience gained on North Africa, international projects, heavy lift and container lifting. The Customs and Agency offices, managed by Dario Perioli, coordinate more than 300 ships of different shipowners annually.
SCAFI - Società di Navigazione S.p.A, ffounded in the 1950s by Salvatore Cafiero, is a leading international Group in the port towing sector and has offices in Italy, Croatia, Morocco, and Greece. The company, now managed by the third generation of the family, relies on a team of 300 professionals and operates a modern fleet of 43 tugboats. Historically active in port towing, salvage, and rescue operations, Scafi has expanded its services by developing synergistic expertise in complementary sectors such as ship management, underwater and maritime works, and offshore activities using tugboats, pontoons, and barges.

L'associazione Agenti Marittimi della Spezia functions within the port of La Spezia and is affiliated with Federagenti, the National Association of reference: www.federagenti.it The member companies represent the leading shipping lines that frequent the port of La Spezia. Shipping Agents engage in diverse shipping sectors, including regular lines, tramps, cruise ships, cargo vessels, and yachts; they collaborate and communicate with pertinent institutions at both local and national levels. The profession of maritime agent is governed by Law No. 135 of April 4, 1977 (Regulation of the Maritime Agent Profession). The association's objective is to undertake all activities essential for establishing optimal conditions for the practice and advancement of the profession.
The Italian Academy of the Merchant Navy is an institution that awards degrees from the Ministry of Education in the field of non-university tertiary education. The “mission” of the Academy is to provide specialized training targeted toward occupations with high professional and technological content, based on the needs of enterprises in the relevant sectors and particularly in the strategic areas of maritime and logistics.
March 25, 1998, marks the founding of the organization known as the " Associations tra gli Spedizionieri Doganali della Spezia" Since its inception, it has been instrumental in the development of the port of La Spezia, significantly contributing to the technological advancement of customs procedures and the training of member companies and professionals. The association is committed to continuous growth in response to innovations and the increasingly complex national and European regulatory landscape. In addition to its informational initiatives, the association actively promotes labor union activities to safeguard the interests of customs agents and all individuals involved in enhancing relationships within the port community.

Since that time, it has served as a significant point of reference for the entire port community of La Spezia. The Associates, who enhance the social and economic fabric of the Association, possess a demonstrated and esteemed operational and business framework within the region. L’Associazione Spedizionieri del Porto di La Spezia is a part of Confindustria La Spezia, the historical home for all associations within the port sector of La Spezia. Additionally, it is affiliated with national federations, including FEDESPEDI (National Federation of International Shipping Companies), which is itself a member of CONFETRA (General Italian Confederation of Transport and Logistics).

LSPS has been operating since 2012 in the port of La Spezia, facilitating customs services, documentation flow, and gate activities through technological innovations. Founded in 2011, the company underwent a change of ownership, passing to Interporto La Spezia srl. Since 2015, it has expanded its mission to include communication and promotion, with a particular focus on freight forwarders and shipping agents. It is the publisher of an online trade journal, Port Logistic Press. In 2016, LSPS developed a platform for managing the weighing of export containers, in compliance with SOLAS regulations. The company also created software for the digitization of customs services. Since 2018, LSPS has been managing the Port Community System (PCS) and a service center for customs documentation management. Since 2020, it has been responsible for the Single Control Center in Santo Stefano Magra, optimizing goods inspections through patented software serving operators. Thanks to its combination of operational management and software development, LSPS has become a leader in the sector, promoting efficiency and certainty in port logistics operations.
